‘Mid-day Meal’ Scheme

The mid-day meal scheme is providing many ample services through various departments and branches. As of 2021, the mid-day meal scheme has spread across India and has become helpful for those who are teaching their children in government schools of India. Actually, ‘Mid-Day Meal’ is a scheme of school meals in India. The scheme is designed to make the best nutritional status of school-age children or students across India. Under the mid-day meal scheme, many students are getting mid-day meals in their schools.

What is the mid-` meal scheme and the main motive of it?

The mid-day meal scheme is the best programme in India operated by the government of India. Mid-day meal schemes are applied by the all-state of India according to their levels. In this scheme, children have the right of getting meals during the school period. However, the mid-day meal scheme depends only on the schools under the government of India. The scheme is not applied to non-government schools. The mid-day meal scheme is launched in the year 1995 in all India.

The main motive of the mid-day meal scheme is to offer hot and well-cooked food or meal to children of nursery and upper primary schools students. Apart from that, the scheme is to improve the nutritional status of those children who are from the encouraging poor family, and disadvantaged sections to attend school more regularly.

Mid-day Meal Menu India

Here is the mid-day meal menu referred by the government of India.

Monday – Cooked Rice, Pappu Chaaru, Egg Curry, and Chikki

Tuesday – Tamarind Lemon/Mango Rice

Wednesday – Aloo Kurma, Vegetable Rice, Boiled Egg., and Chikki

Thursday – Kitchidi (with Green Gram Dhal), Tomato Chutney, and Boiled-Egg

Friday – Dhal with Green Leaves, Cooked Rice, Boiled Egg, and Chikki

Saturday – Cooked Rice, Samber, and Sweet Pongal

Mid-day meal scheme in Rajasthan

Similar to other states, the government of Rajasthan had applied the mid-day meal scheme in the year 2004. Thus, since 2004, the government of Rajasthan is running this scheme for school children. The Rajasthan Mid-day meal scheme includes the menu given below.

Monday – Chapati-Vegetable & Dal

Tuesday – Rice, Dal/Vegetable

Wednesday – Chapati-Dal

Thursday – Khichdi(with Dal, Rice, Vegetable, etc.)

Friday – Chapati-Dal

Saturday – Chapati-Vegetable Mixed

Note: The name of the mid-day meal scheme has been changed to Pradhan Mantri Poshan Shakti Nirman (PM-POSHAN) in 2021 by MoE (Ministry of Education).
